June 2013
Even though I’m not on call, I’m staying up with the counselors who are because they don’t know how to correct or treat the kids…
What.
Eight campers with at least 48 blood sugar checks a day, everyone is on different insulins at different times of the day. Different dosages and correction factors.
It’s so much to keep track of, but I was in their shoes at one point and someone was doing the same thing for me.
I just want to teach these kids how to take care of themselves.
Today was the first day of kids and it was EXHAUSTING. I checked blood sugars over 54 times today, not including my own. So many shots, juices, glucose tabs… you name it.
The kids love me though because it doesn’t hurt when I give them shots ;D I was told I’m a professional.
You really know what type of campers you have when it’s time to go to bed.
But, personally, my blood sugars have been under 200 all day. I just had my first low, and I think that’s pretty damn good.
I’m so excited for the campers to get here tomorrow. They’re all so little!!
The campers come in tomorrow at 10 and the cabin is all set up. I made the poster, hung name tags on bunk beds and put all the ladders up.
IM GONNA BE AN AWESOME COUNSELOR.
